Media Release: Variety to Distribute $1.2m Sprout Funding for SA Kids
29-Sep-2017 12:45 PM
Variety – the Children’s Charity of South Australia is responding to the growing number of children living with disadvantage and diagnosed with special needs through the ‘Variety Sprout Fund,’ and they are calling for final applications.
The Variety Sprout Fund was borne from boardroom discussion about how Variety could extend the ‘net of impact’.
As a grants-only provider, Variety distributes funding directly to families with children in need or to those organisations who assist them.
The problem for smaller organisations achieving great impact in the community is the limited funding. In order to grow or innovate, organisations are in need of new and longer term sources of funds – hence the Variety Sprout Fund was born.
Variety will allocate funding to successful applicants over three years, this may include wages and other costs not currently considered under the existing Variety grant criteria; enabling them to concentrate on their core business – helping more children.
Eight South Australian organisations, selected by an independent panel, will be successful in receiving a share of a total of up to $1.2 million over three years.
“We want to invest to help South Australian children be the best they can be, especially those who are not part of our usual support systems,’’ said Dr. Kathryn Zeitz, Chair of Variety SA Board.
‘’Through this fund, we are increasing our impact in this state, supporting innovative thinking and changing children lives now and into the future,’’ she said.
Anyone with an innovative program or initiative to support children in the state is encouraged to apply.
Since 1983, Variety has granted more than $51,000,000 to distribute to children in need in the state, including schools, hospitals and other children’s charities.
Applications close Friday, 6 October – visit varietysa.org.au.
