On Friday, 16 June, the Adelaide Convention Centre will again host one of Adelaide’s largest private functions, Variety – the Children’s Charity of South Australia’s Annual Themed Ball. This year the theme is ‘Boots and Bling – a Western Fling’ and guests, most of whom will dress in costume, enter the room through a ranch corral and will be greeted with a 12m saloon bar complete with swinging doors, a western streetscape and a whip cracking display on stage to get the party started.

More than 2,200 ball-goers will enjoy a three-course meal whilst feasting on an entertainment line-up including The Ultimate Cher Show  featuring Betty Dargie, complete with aerial acrobats,  followed by Sarah Lloyd from The Voice with the all-talented Audio Box.   To enhance the western theme, support acts from The Adelaide Bluegrass Cloggers, young up and coming band The Quilt Covers and the Cow Guys featuring Amber Poulton will play everyone’s favourite country tunes.

The event marks sixteen years that the Adelaide Convention Centre has been the major sponsor.  The ball has raised more than $2.6 million dollars (net) since its inception in 2002, with last year’s raising nearly $270,000 (net).
Variety – the Children’s Charity assists children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs by granting programs and practical equipment to enhance their lives.

Last year, Variety helped more than 26,000 children in South Australia through distributing more than $3m dollars into the community.  This is money raised through fundraising opportunities such as the Annual Themed Ball that is supported through the generosity of South Australian businesses which this year donated nearly 200 auction items for the night.

Examples of outcomes funded by Variety include things like a wheelchair accessible vehicle for a family to enable them to travel safely, a prosthesis for a child or life changing surgery that will enable a child to walk unassisted.
