2016 Walkley Documentary Award Longlist Announced

Six outstanding documentaries longlisted for the 2016 Walkley Awards for Excellence in Journalism will be screened at the State Library of NSW in Sydney in October, giving the public a free viewing of the finest work in the field over the past year.

From tragedy on Mount Everest to Pauline Hanson’s political career, these films showcase the very best in Australian longform journalism.

2016 Walkley Documentary Award Longlist:

 Afghanistan: Inside Australia’s War, Victoria Midwinter Pitt, Essential Media and Entertainment and ABC TV
• Hitting Home, Sarah Ferguson, Nial Fulton and Ivan O’Mahoney, In Films and ABC TV
• In the Shadow of the Hill, Dan Jackson, Future Paradigm Films

• Ka-Ching! Pokie Nation, Mitzi Goldman, Neil Lawrence , Andrea Lang, Caroline Pegram and Jane Manning, Looking Glass Pictures and ABC TV
• Pauline Hanson: Please Explain!, Anna Broinowski, Michael Cordell and Nikki Stevens, CJZ and SBS TV
• Sherpa, Jennifer Peedom, Bridget Ikin and John Smithson, Felix Media

All six films will be screened free for the public at the State Library of NSW on Tuesday October 18 and Wednesday October 19. Each screening is free, but RSVP is essential.

A shortlist of three finalists for the Walkley Documentary will be announced at the State Library of NSW on Thursday October 13.

The overall winner will be announced at the 61st Walkley Awards for Excellence in Journalism in Brisbane on December 2.
