What:              Flypast over Melbourne and Geelong by an Air Force C-27J Spartan transport aircraft with the Roulettes aerobatic display team.
When:             Friday, 24 February 2017. The aircraft will appear overhead Melbourne at approximately 12.15pm.
Where:            Port Phillip Bay. The aircraft will overfly Phillip Island, Mornington, Frankston, Chelsea, Melbourne, Laverton, Avalon Airport, Geelong, and Torquay.
As a prelude to the 2017 Australian International Air Show, the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) will take to the skies over Melbourne and Geelong on Friday.
At 11.50am, a C-27J Spartan transport aircraft will meet with Air Force’s Roulettes aerobatic team over Phillip Island, flying its PC-9/A training aircraft. Together, the aircraft will fly towards Mornington, and then along the Port Phillip Bay shoreline, flying past Frankston and Chelsea, at an altitude of 150 metres.
On reaching Melbourne, these aircraft will orbit over the CBD together at an altitude of 450 metres between 12.15-12.30pm. They will then overfly Laverton and Avalon Airport, before proceeding towards Geelong (12.30pm) and Torquay (12.35pm), before eventually landing at Avalon Airport.
Please note that this activity is subject to variables that include weather, air traffic control requirements, and operational availability; and that it may be delayed or cancelled with no notice.
The C-27J Spartan and the Roulettes will be part of Australian Defence Force fleet on display when the Australian International Air Show is open to the public from Friday 3 March to Sunday 5 March 2017.
The RAAF will also be demonstrating key aircraft and systems that form part of its Plan Jericho, which seeks to deliver an Air Force that is fully integrated with fifth generation capabilities such as the F-35A Lightning II, and advanced battlespace networking systems.
