Love shouldn’t hurt: American Express, Two Good Co and Deliveroo donate 20,000 meals to women in domestic violence shelters

Every week one Australian woman is murdered by a current or former partner* and thousands more are seeking refuge in women’s shelters and safe houses across the country. A shelter or safe house provides, emergency accommodation for women and children fleeing domestic or family violence.

Enter, Two Good. Two Good operates on a ‘buy one, give one’ model, producing beautiful, chef-designed meals for women in need. For every Two Good meal purchased, a similar meal is donated to a women’s safe house in Sydney or Melbourne.  The meals are specially packaged in custom jars, to remind receivers that they are valued and cared for.

This month, American Express is expanding Two Good’s model, with the goal of delivering 20,000 meals.  To play their part, customers simply need to use their American Express Card to pay for any meal order on Deliveroo; and a Two Good meal will automatically be delivered to a woman in need.

Through this partnership, we want to encourage Australians to make a difference, starting with a simple meal.” 

Every Two Good meal is designed by some of Australia’s most renowned chefs including Kylie Kwong, Matt Moran and Christine Manfield. Meals that are donated are prepared by women from the same safe houses they serve, providing them with pathways to employment.

Founder of Two Good, Rob Caslick said, “This collaboration is an exciting next step for Two Good.  Not only will it help us triple the amount of meals we’re able to deliver to women in need each week, but it will also help us double the amount of staff we hire from shelters and refuges to create the meals. It’ll also help us further expand our kitchens in Melbourne to have a larger impact in the city.”

Deliveroo Australia’s country manager, Levi Aron said, “Since launching in Australia in late 2015 we have been working closely with Two Good. We have always felt a deep sense of wanting to make a difference and our partnership with American Express will ensure the Two Good message receives the attention it deserves. We are so pleased to be working together to bring more awareness to such an important issue.”

To raise awareness about the effect that American Express and Two Good plan to deliver in the span of the campaign, American Express has commissioned a statement-making mosaic mural created by Sydney-based artist, Noula Diamantopoulos. Inspired by the face of domestic violence survivor Felicity Cook, the 6 metre x 10 metre mural is made from 20,000 jar lids atop of a message reading ‘Love shouldn’t hurt.’ 

The mural is representative of the volume of meals that will be donated by American Express to Two Good via Deliveroo in October, and will be on display from 9 October to 31 October at 182 George Street, Sydney (generously hosted by Lendlease). 

Customers are encouraged to get involved by purchasing from any restaurant on Deliveroo with their American Express Card, and join the conversation by using the hashtag #deliveringgood.
